A super visa is a temporary multi-entry visa valid for up to 10 years that allows parents and grandparents to visit their children and grandchildren for up to 5 years at the time.
On July 4th 2022, IRCC announced that the length of stay for super visas will be increased from 2 to 5 years effective immediately.
In order to be eligible to apply for a super visa, the applicant must be a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, must apply outside Canada and meet other equally important requirements including financial support.
Unlike the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP), which grants permanent residence, the super visa does not involve lottery or random selections but on the contrary, it allows for faster processing than PGP and adds more certainty to families.
Another recent change to super visas include the fact that applicants can now choose international medical insurance companies as opposed to Canadian companies only as it was the case in the past. This new measure translates into savings of thousands of dollars for super visa applicants.
